We are pleased to inform that VLCV BV has safely and successfully completed its first assignment on the Borssele project.
For the Borssele project, VLCV BV was contracted by VBNK, the by TenneT contracted consortium, to install 2 shore approaches (500 mtr DN400) reaching from LAT on the mudflats to approximately -50m LAT at the edge of the navigational channel of the Western Scheldt including all associated works. VLCV BV designed a revolutionary solution based on their Direct Drill® system and work methods used in the past during complex offshore horizontal drilling works. To accommodate the pull in of the 220kV power cables, a bellmouth was designed to safeguard the minimum bending radius of the cables and reduce pull-in forces. The method of the bellmouth installation at -50m LAT in a harsh environment, with high currents and no visibility, was engineered in house as well. All drilling, installation, marine and subsea services (ROV and diving) including land and marine civil works were provided by VLCV BV.
The Project timelines:
Start September 2019 and completed March 2020
TENNET COMMENTS: VLCV BV safely and successfully performed the complete scope. All works and equipment used, were carried out in accordance with the Dutch legislation, according to the best industry practice and associated recommended guidelines.
For each individual activity VLCV BV provided Work Method Statements, which included all relevant HSSE documentation. Risk assessments were made and jointly with the Employer reviewed. A Management of Change and Non Conformity procedure was implemented to ensure a safe working environment as well as focus on the required quality. All in line with the projects QHSE standards.
VLCV BV displayed strong focus and effort on safety in ensuring that all services and related works were carried out in line with TenneT's requirements and HSSE. Especially executing the works with a limited amount of preparation time and working in a challenging environment makes the performance even more outstanding. No significant safety events took place.
TENNET confirms the safe and successful completion of the scope of work, as contracted to VLCV BV.
